Who Can Get It

Eligibility for a Free NHS Home Eye Test

NHS eye tests are provided to patients who are normally entitled to an NHS eye test but are unable to leave their home due to a condition that stops
them from leaving their home. This can be a mental or physical condition.
You may be eligible for a free NHS home eye test, if you or someone you know is:

  • Aged 60 or over
  • Registered blind or partially sighted
  • Diagnosed with diabetes or glaucoma
  • receiving benefits (income support, Income-based Jobseekers Allowance, Income-related Employment and Support Allowance or Pension Credit Guarantee Credit)
  • Aged 40 or over and your mother, father, brother, sister, son or daughter has been diagnosed with glaucoma
  • Entitled to, or named on, a valid NHS tax credit exemption certificate
  • On a low income and named on a valid HC2 or HC3 certificate
